Everyone has right to attend any rally, BBI sio ya mtu – DP Ruto to Kieleweke faction (video)

Deputy President William Ruto has castigated ODM leader Raila Odinga’s allies for spelling out tough conditions for Tanga Tanga leaders planning to attend Mombasa Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting.

Speaking in Nairobi’s Eastlands, DP Ruto asked political leaders to recognize that BBI consultation process was for all Kenyans and not a preserve of politicians.

DP Ruto dismissed the recent remarks by ODM leaders setting conditions for Tanga Tanga allied leaders who have declared they will be attending the Mombasa meeting.

“I want to ask political leaders to stop acting like pre-colonial village prefects (nyapara). They think they can decide who is in BBI, who will attend this meeting, who will attend that meeting,” said the DP.

“ Who appointed you to be prefect so that you’re the one who decides those invited and those who are not invited?.”

In what points to a possible clash between DP and Raila’s allies, Ruto said the BBI process belonged to every Kenya and nobody needed invitation to attend any meeting on the process.

“ Mimi nataka niwaambie hakuna mtu ambaye ni mgeni hapa Kenya wa kualikwa. Hakuna wakimbizi Kenya. Sisi wote ni Wakenya. Na BBI sio ya mtu.”

The DP remarks follow a day after Suna East MP set conditions for Tanga Tanga allied MPs who will be attending the metting to be held at Tononoka in Mombasa.

“If they are coming in any way to attempt to undermine that meeting or to create the slightest of chaos, we’re prepared for them,” said the ODM legislator who also serves as Minority Whip in the National Assembly.

Governor Hassan Joho on Thursday, January 23, also warned Tanga Tanga leaders against disrupting the meeting.

“Let them be made aware that you can speak or joke anywhere else in this country but not county 001 – Mombasa,” the ODM deputy party leader warned.

Junet and Joho’s remarks are a rejoinder to Tanga Tanga MPs declaration that they would attend every BBI meeting held across the country.

“We will be participating in all public BBI rallies across the country. This weekend, we will be in Mombasa together with the BBI team, we will participate fully and mobilise our constituents to present their views in all the 290 constituencies,” said Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday, January 21.
