Calls for a stronger and united Jubilee Party are likely to dominate the party’s Parliamentary group meeting in Naivasha scheduled for Monday, January 27.
According to Gatundu MP Moses Kuria the meeting will provide a platform for the at least 180 Jubilee Party members and friendly parties to strategise ahead of 2022.
Kuria has in recent times mutated into one of the staunchest supporters of Deputy President William Ruto and a Tanga Tanga leading light.
“We’re going to start planning for 2022. You can’t give ODM the mantle for BBI so that they can plan ahead and expect us to fold our hands. We’re going to organize ourselves,” said Kuria.
In a recent exclusive interview with a local TV station, DP Ruto admitted the Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga had led to division in Jubilee leading to formation of Kieleweke and rival Tanga Tanga factions.
Ruto also exuded confidence that Uhuru would back Jubilee candidate who will be chosen to face off with Raila Odinga.
“ The way I know Uhuru Kenyatta, he will back whoever will be picked as Jubilee Party candidate,” said the DP.
A Tanga Tanga aligned MP who spoke to Gotta.news said a stronger Jubilee party will be an asset to the DP in the 2022 race.
” The divisions in Jubilee are as clear as daylight. If only we can unite the party, DP Ruto stands the biggest chance to benefit immensely in 2022,” said the MP who sought anonymity for fear of retribution.
Kuria’s remarks come a day after some of the speakers at the Mombasa Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) popularisation rally called for the formation of BBI aligned movement that will have ODM leader Raila Odinga as its flag bearer.
Speaker after speaker at the Mombasa rally, majority ODM MPs, hailed Raila for the Handshake that birthed the BBI process.
But it is fafi MP Abdikarim Osman (ODM) who made an outright suggestion that BBI become a political movement to accommodate pro-BBI politicians.
All indications are DP Ruto and Raila will be two front-runners in the 2022 poll.
