Crackdown on gambling bearing fruit – CS Fred Matiang’i

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has hailed the ongoing crackdown on gambling machines and betting companies in the country saying it’s bearing fruits.

The tough-talking CS who spoke during a meeting with Muslim leadership at Nairobi’s Jamia Mosque further urged Kenyans to join the government in the war against gambling saying no country has ever been built by gambling.

“Data shows since we started a crackdown on gambling, change has been seen. It has not been a bed of roses but I am resolute in stopping it. No country has been built by gambling. This must be fought by every Kenyan,” he said.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale said gambling needs to be banned completely terming it “a threat to national security.”

Recently two of the region’s leading betting firms, Sportpesa and Betin, shut down their operations in Kenya leading to huge job losses.
