Census 2019 results: Kenya’s population hits 47.6 million and 6 other facts

The just released released Census 2019 numbers show the population has grown by about 10 million since the last exercise in 1999.

Here are some interesting points from the results which were officially released in a ceremony presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House Nairobi.

  1. The 2019 national census enumeration results shows there are 47.6 Kenyan
  2. There are 23.6 million males and 24 million females

3. There are 1,524 intersex Kenyans. Their population growth rate declined from 2.9% in 2009 to 2.2% in 2019

  1. In 2009, the population was 37.7 million going by the KNBS data

5. The Five most populous counties according to Census 2019 results are; Nairobi- 4,394, 073; Kiambu – 2, 417,                 726; Nakuru – 2, 162, 202; Kakamega – 1, 867, 579 and Bungoma – 1, 670, 570

  1. The 5 least populous counties according to 2019 Census results; Taita Taveta – 340, 671; Tana River – 315, 943; Samburu – 310, 327; Isiolo – 268, 002 and Lamu – 143, 920.
  1. Mandera County has the largest household size in Kenya at 6.9, Nairobi the least at 2.9.
