Cargo Ship with 4,000 Luxury Cars Catches Fire in Atlantic Ocean

Drama ensued off the coast of the Azore Islands after a ship ferrying 3,965 caught fire in the Atlantic Ocean. 

Authorities reported that the ship was on its way to the Unites Unites States of America when the accident occurred on Wednesday, February 16.   

A 16-person team from Smit Salvage was sent to the ship to help control the flames. 

The ship also known as Felicity was ferrying cars from notable brands including Porsche, Volkswagen, Audis, Lamborghinis and Bentleys.

In a statement, Porsche sympathized with the 22 crew members, however, noting that they were taken to safety after being rescued by the Portuguese navy. 

“We believe a number of our cars are among the cargo onboard the ship

“No further details of the specific cars affected are available at this time – we are in close contact with the shipping company and will share more information in due course,” Porsche said in part. 

The ship was travelling from Emden Germany to Davisville, Rhode Island.
