At least 13 people have died and several injured after a passenger bus collided with a truck at Pala near Awasi in Kisumu county.
According to witnesses, the clash occurred at 11:30 pm Thursday night after the driver of the bus belonging to Eldoret Express was involved in a head on collision with a trailer.
In a report published by Nation, Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu said at least 13 bodies had been counted by 2:30 am Friday.
“The bus was travelling from Kisumu towards Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway when the driver tried to overtake a cane tractor and was involved in a head-on-collision with the trailer,” said Maweu.
Nyanza regional police boss Vincent Makokha said that of the 13 who died, 12 were in the bus including a child. The truck driver also perished on the spot.
He said the bodies of the deceased were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital while survivors are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
