Atheists accuse DP Ruto of religious arrogance over Reggae remarks

Atheists in Kenya have slammed the Deputy President William Ruto over recent remarks which they claim advance religious intolerance.

While responding to ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Nobody Can Stop Reggae BBI slogan, DP Ruto recently stated that Kenya is a religious country that had no place for Reggae and sorcery.

“I want to say for the avoidance of doubt that Kenya is a country of prayer and not Reggae and magicians. We will stop this reggae,” the DP said.

Atheists have now dismissed his statements stating that they are discriminate other Kenyans who are not religious.

AIK Chairperson Harrison Mumia and Vice Chairperson Francis Maende called out the DP for what they term as ‘religious arrogance’.

In a hard-hitting statement, AIK criticized Ruto saying his sentiments have no place in Kenya’s democracy.

“We are concerned that the Deputy President is advancing religious nationalism. Given that he holds a key Constitutional office, such remarks demean the status of his office and pose threat to our Constitutionalism,” AIK said on Tuesday, March 3.

Atheists claim that Kenya is a diverse nation as 2019 census revealed that 700,000 Kenyans belong to atheism.
