71 plead guilty to forging KDF calling letters

71 youths have pleaded guilty to charges of forgery of calling letters for enlistment into the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

The 71 were among the 99 arrested at the Recruit Training School (RTS) in Eldoret a week ago after presenting the fake documents.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Naomi Wairimu on Monday, February 3.

The court imprisoned them to serve a sentence of six months with an alternative fine of KSh 20,000 each.

The 28 others who denied the charges were each released on KSh 30,000 cash bail or KSh 100,000 bond.

The prosecution detailed how the accused were arrested at Eldoret RTS on January 26, 2020 as they reported with fake letters of admission claiming to be genuine KDF calling letters.

The hearing of the case against those who denied the charges is slated February 24.
