A 68-yearold woman has sefely delivered twins in Lagos, Nigeria.
According to a message posted on the Twitter handle of Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi Araba, the woman fell pregnant for the first time following an in Vitro fertilisation.
The woman was delivered through a ceasarean section on April 14.
“The IVF and embryo transfer were done at an outside facility,” Prof Wasiu Adeyemo, the CMAC of LUTH said.
“She was thereafter referred to LUTH at early gestation stage and subsequently managed till term.”
According to Adeyemo, this is the first time such feat has been recorded in Africa.
However, older women have given birth through assisted reproductive technology.
