At least 40 Kenyans have been blocked from joining Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in the ongoing recruitment drive in Sipi sub-region.
The group comprising both male and female youths had allegedly colluded with country’s Local Councils’ officials to disguise their nationality.
Telesphor Turyamanya, a UPDF spokesperson was dismayed by the fact the Kenyan nationals held recommendation letters issued by Ugandan local council authorities, the Daily Monitor reported.
Turyamana said the recruiting officers took a keener interest in the suspects after being tip off from members of the public.
“Some of these Kenyans were recommended by LCs and Government Internal Ssecurity Officers (GISOs) and we only identified them here after we were tipped off by some concerned citizens. Indeed as we went deep we found that they were not Ugandans, about 40 of them were eliminated on that fact,” he said.
UPDF, just like other militaries in the world do not recruit non-citizens.
