Four Al-Shabaab militants were killed following a Sunday morning attack on the Manda military base in Lamu County, KDF says.
According to KDF, the militants had launched a 5am attack on Manda Airstrip which is near Camp Simba – a Kenyan naval base that also houses US soldiers on training assignments.
“This morning at around 5:30 am an attempt was made to breach security at Manda Air Strip. The attempted breach was successfully repulsed. Four terrorists’ bodies have so far been found. The airstrip is safe,” read the statement by KDF.
Arising from the unsuccessful breach a fire broke out affecting some of the fuel tanks located at the airstrip. The fire has been put under control and standard security procedures are now on-going.
Al-Shabaab have so far claimed responsibility of the attack.
