Ritf Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has sent a stern warning to area Chiefs over underage pregnancies during this COVID-19 pandemic that has halted learning among other day-to-day activities.
Speaking during a security meeting on Thursday, May 21, Natembeya said that Chiefs will be held liable for underage pregnancies until the baby is born and the father identified.

“Mschana akipata mimba kwa area yako, mimi nitajua hiyo mimba ni yako mpaka siku ambayo mtoto atajifungua twende tufanye DNA. Lakini kabla hajazaa wewe ndio utampeleka clinic mpaka ajifungue kwa sababu ulikua wapi akipata mimba, tuchunge watoto kabisa,” a tough-talking Natembeya warned.
He also spoke on early marriages noting that the Kalenjin and Kuria communities in that area have a tendency of marrying young girls warning those found doing the habit will be dealt with accordingly.
Natembeya a no-nonsense born again Christian was serving as Narok County commissioner before being named Rift Valley regional commissioner in June 2019.
In a letter that was signed by Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, Natembeya was moved to the regional headquarters replacing Chimwaga Mwongo who was move to Nairobi in the same capacity.
His transfer elicited mixed reactions online with netizens supporting and condemning the move in equal measure.
Known for his tough talking, Natembeya suffered political barbs in June 2018 from Rift Valley leaders including Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen over eviction of illegal settlers from the Maasai Mau Forest.
He also made headlines in November 2018 after ordering girl schools in Narok to tests its students to establish whether they are pregnant or had undergone female genital mutilation, arguing that the move was aimed at identifying and prosecuting parents who force their daughters to undergo the cut.
The order caused outrage with the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) terming it as demeaning and in violation of rights.

In 2015, he also got in trouble with human rights bodies after ordering police to shoot and kill anyone found carrying illegal firearms in Isiolo.
