Eliud Owalo has resigned as a member of Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) party.
In a statement shared on his social media pages, Owalo said he was leaving to allow the party leader, Musalia Mudavadi to make decisions without feeling suffocated by his views and suggestions.

“It is now fitting that the space around you should be decongested. This will allow you to make critical decisions on the population and leadership of the party under the new constitution without feeling suffocated by my views and suggestions,” reads part of his statement.
Owalo further expressed the desire to safeguard and sustain his personal friendship, respect and positive professional engagement with Mudavadi.
“I also want to create a reasonable leg-room between myself and Mudavadi to safeguard and sustain our personal friendship, respect and positive professional engagements that has been in existence over a span of 25 years,” Owalo added.
Owalo joined ANC in August 2019 after ditching Raila Odinga’s ODM party citing divergence of political ideology as well as personal reasons.
“My resignation is informed by the fact that my political ideology, convictions and belief no longer has convergence or depict any congruence and common denominator with that of the ODM Party; its value-orientation and practices,” he said.
His exit came two days after Barack Muluka resigned as the party’s Secretary General to allow Mudavadi to prepare for the 2022 polls.
“I doubt that I could add more value to what i have done so far. Moreover, it is now fitting that the space around you should be decongested. this will allow you to make critical decisions on the population and leadership of the party under the new constitution,” he said.
He added that his resignation will allow Mudavadi to make personal political choices ahead of the general elections.
“As part of giving you the necessary latitude on the arduous political journey ahead, I have now decided to step aside and move on to other horizons. This therefore is my formal letter of resignation both as secretary general and a member of ANC,” he added.

Muluka also asked the Political Parties Registrar to strike off his name from the ANC’s membership roll.
