US streaming giant Netflix announced on Thursday, February 18 plans to develop Lupita Nyong’o’s book titled ‘Sulwe’ into a film.
According to Netflix, turning the graphic novel an animated musical would continue preaching her message to the world.

The actress book confronts colorism and continue to teach about self-esteem and that true beauty comes from within.
The book written by Nyong’o with illustrations by Vashti Harrison talks of Sulwe whose skin is darker than everyone she knows as she wants to be beautiful and bright.
One night, Sulwe is visited by a shooting star sent by the Night, and embarks on a magical journey that changes everything by teaching true beauty comes from within.
The recognized book recently featured in an episode of Netflix’s original series named Celebrating Black Voices!
“We’re so excited to announce SULWE, the animated musical, is coming to Netflix! Based off of Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o’s New York Times bestselling book, SULWE tells the story of a young girl born “the color of midnight” who learns to embrace her inner and outer beauty,” said Netflix.
The actress disclosed that she wrote the story while recounting her days while she grew up with dark skin.

“The story of Sulwe is one that is very close to my heart. It was a long journey for me to arrive at self-love. Sulwe is a mirror for dark-skinned children to see themselves, a window for those who may not be familiar with colorism, to have understanding and empathy.” She said.
