On Saturday, April 11, former Citizen TV news anchor Julie Gichuru shared an old photo of herself and no-nonsense Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji at the University of Wales, Cardiff.
While warning Kenyans, especially young people, against ignoring precautionary measures put in place by the government to tame the spread of COVID-19, Gichuru revealed that she attended the same campus as Haji, where they were both studying law.
She explained that the photo was taken in September 1993 at a student gathering during their first week on campus.
“Young’uns, please follow the message from my former law school classmate Noordin Haji: “I want to caution everybody to obey the rules, especially the young people… Okonkwo hatawezana na COVID-19 kama haoshi mikono na kuvaa mask.”
“Throwback: September 1993, 1st week of the first year of university.” At a students gathering in the Students Union, University of Wales, Cardiff. 2 law students and 3 medics We had fun, but we were all sticklers for the rules,” captioned Gichuru.
Noordin Haji worked as a senior officer with the National Intelligence Service before his appointment as Director of Public Prosecutions.

Haji won Kenyans’ hearts after spearheading major crackdowns on corrupt political bigwigs shortly after kicking off his tenure.
Some of the notable cases include irregular compensation in the SGR project, the arrest and arraignment of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal II, and the disputed payments in the Arror and Kimwarer Dam projects.
