Tributes are pouring in online following the death of Eliud Luvonga, a young Kenya Defence Forces soldier reportedly killed when a KDF lorry crashed at the notorious Kamatira escarpment in West Pokot.
The crash happened along the steep Kapenguria–Lodwar stretch, a section locals call a “black spot” for its sharp bends and sudden drops.
Posts on Facebook, TikTok, and community forums have surfaced, featuring images of the severely damaged military truck involved in the accident.
Though the KDF is yet to issue a formal statement naming the victims, social-media users identifying the fallen soldier as Eliud Luvonga have flooded timelines with grief.

A close friend posted a short, aching tribute:
“We remember Eliud Luvonga. Steadfast soldier. Generous in action, disciplined in soul.”
Another wrote:
“Rip Luvonga 💔😭. Why are we losing our young men so early?”
A third message simply read:
“Ooh my God, Luvonga, kweli mbona umetuacha mapema? Rest well.”
The tone is uniform. Grief. Disbelief. And a sense that a life full of promise was stolen without warning.
Witness posts describing the scene speak of a lorry that “lost control” before rolling off the roadside.

Local pages reported that one soldier died and several others were rushed to hospital. The details remain partial and contradictory in some instances, but the grief is unmistakable.
On Facebook, Luvonga’s smiling photos: clean-cut, confident, in crisp army green , have gathered hundreds of comments.
