Volkswagen Rwanda has launched first-ever electric cars in Rwanda, in partnership with Siemens.
The e-Golf is part of a joint agreement between Volkswagen and Siemens to conduct the electric mobility feasibility project.
Volkswagen Group South Africa CEO Thomas Schäfer announced on Tuesday, October 30, the pilot project will include four e-Golfs and one charging station.
“The success of our innovative and pioneering mobility solutions business has shown us that Rwanda has the potential to leapfrog the internal combustion engines into electric cars.
“Rwanda has a young and progressive population that appreciates individual and modern mobility,” said Schäfer.
Siemens Southern and Eastern Africa CEO Sabine Dall’Omo said the company’s partnership with Volkswagen was a testament of its commitment not only in Rwanda but in the whole of East Africa region.
This comes days after the country launched the first ‘Made in Africa’ smartphones.
