Nairobi Expressway: Man Killed in Tragic Accident Paid Dowry Last Month

Fresh details have emerged on the motorist who crashed and died on the newly-constructed Nairobi Expressway.

According to a post by a netizen Wahome Thuku on Facebook, the man who perished on the expressway has been identified as one Jimmy.

The deceased was reportedly set to do a wedding later this year and had just visited his fianceé’s parents for dowry payments.

“I haven’t received alot of info about him except that he was planning to do his wedding this year. He had just visited his fiancé family last month and paid dowry (ruracio),” Thuku said.

He also disclosed that Jimmy’s uncle is in hospital, however, not confirming if it is as a result of the road accident.

“Stop speed guys. In this world we are all too busy or too mentally preoccupied to be impressed or amazed by your speeding skills. The people you overtake in that show off are the same ones who will retrieve your body from the wreckage,” Thuku added.

The young man crashed into the Mlolongo toll station while on high speed on Saturday night, June 25 leading to his death.

In a statement, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the driver crashed into the toll plaza knocking down one toll booth and other vehicles waiting for clearance at the exit.

“Those injured have been rushed to the hospital for medical attention and are responding to treatment. The affected exit booth has been closed,” said KeNHA.

Following the crash, the road agency warned motorists against speeding while using the newly-constructed multi-billion expressway.

“The Nairobi Expressway is committed to providing a safe and reliable toll road service and would wish to assure the public that they are putting measures in place to avert such unfortunate incidents from occurring,” KeNHA added.

According to a CCTV footage from the toll station, the car hits slow bumps before the station and speed into vehicles being serviced at the station.

The vehicle is then tossed in the air, hits the toll booth before landing on a vehicle at the revenue collection point.

Four tyres are seen flying towards different directions, one on the far left of the town-bound exit, another to the far left of the exit and two others landed next to the toll stations.

The wreckages of the vehicles were ferried to the Athi River police station.
