Zambian Man Dies after Violent Clash with Estranged Wife
A visit between two people who once were married has turned into bloodshed, grief, and a death that has shocked a community in Zambia’s eastern town of Chipata.
Kangwa Mumbi, 36, had reportedly gone to see his estranged wife, Agness Zulu, on the afternoon of June 19.
The couple had separated and were living in different houses within the same town.
Yet, like many relationships that end on paper but linger in emotion, the distance between them was never quite complete.
Police say the encounter quickly descended into a bitter argument. Harsh words gave way to violence. Then came the knife.
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, Kangwa allegedly stabbed Agness in the spine during the confrontation.
Gravely wounded, she collapsed. But the struggle did not end there. Authorities say she managed to wrestle the knife from him before allegedly plunging it into his chest.
Moments later, the man lay motionless.
Chilling Scene
When officers arrived, they found a chilling scene. Kangwa’s body was sprawled face down in a pool of blood about six metres from the house.
Investigators reported a deep wound on the left side of his chest, blood staining much of his clothing and the ground beneath him.
The suspected murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
Meanwhile, Agness was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries before being transferred to Chipata Central Hospital for specialised treatment.
Police said she remained in stable condition under guard as investigations continued.
The tragedy has sparked intense debate across social media, with many questioning whether the fatal stabbing amounted to self-defence while others lamented the deadly consequences of unresolved domestic conflicts.
