A grisly road crash has claimed the life of the young daughter of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) managing director Captain William Ruto.
The accident occurred on the evening of Friday, April 3, in Taita Taveta County as Captain Ruto travelled with members of his family along the Mombasa Road corridor, according to official statements and multiple media reports.
In a statement released on Saturday, April 4, KPA confirmed the incident, describing it as a “tragic road accident” and announcing the death of the young girl.
“Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident,” the authority said, extending condolences to the family during what they termed “a time of immense grief”.
Captain William Ruto and other family members survived the crash and are currently receiving medical care.
KPA indicated that they are in stable condition and under close medical supervision as they recover from injuries sustained in the incident.
Emergency response teams drawn from both Mombasa and Taita Taveta counties were among the first to arrive at the scene, providing assistance before the victims were taken for treatment.

Authorities have since launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

The maritime agency also appealed for privacy for the bereaved family, even as messages of condolence poured in from leaders, staff, and stakeholders across the transport and logistics sector.
Captain Ruto, a seasoned maritime professional, has led the institution since 2023, steering key reforms in port efficiency and regional logistics integration.
