Mike Sonko has stepped into the spotlight again, this time over a family drama that has spilt into public view.
Sonko on Saturday reacted dramatically following a distress call from his daughter, Salma Mbuvi, who alleged that she had been assaulted by her husband.
Salma said the incident occurred early on Sunday, November 16, morning at their Kitengela home.
She told her mother she had asked for breakfast—and was slapped twice.
According to Sonko, the blows left a visible dent on his daughter’s face.
In the now trending video, the former Nairobi Governor rushed to the scene, flanked by security, and confronted his son-in-law in a heated exchange.
The man stood, head bowed.
In a stern tone, Sonko warned the man, “If you do this again, I will report you to the police myself.”
“Why are you beating my daughter? I pay your rent, your school fees, and even bought you a car,” Sonko demanded, pointing out his financial support.
One of Sonko’s bodyguards even landed a hot slap on Sonko’s son-in-law.
Salma intervened, shielding the son-in-law from further violence as he pleaded for forgiveness.
The former Nairobi Governor then took his daughter away and ensured she got a medical check-up at Nairobi Women’s Hospital.
Sonko framed the incident as part of a larger problem: violence against women in homes, even those with means.
“If my daughter can be harassed in her own home, what hope do others have?” he asked.
Most netizens hailed Sonko for acting to protect his daughter against violence.

However, critics read the optics of a high-profile politician publicly managing a domestic dispute.
