Mohammed Abduba Dida, the former Kenyan presidential candidate, is serving a seven-year sentence in the US.
Court papers show Dida, a former teacher, was convicted for stalking and transmitting threats.
The papers further show the ex-presidential candidate has been serving his sentence at the Big Muddy Correctional Centre in Illinois since November 18, 2022.
Dida is accused of stalking and intimidating a victim whose identity is hidden.

Court papers seen by GOTTA.news show Dida’s first charge of stalking and transmitting threats saw him handed a two-year sentence.
The second charge was for aggravated stalking and violation of a restraining order, which saw the court slap him with a five-year sentence.
Litigation documents show Dida was confined in Mclean County, Illinois, where the offence was committed during the hearing in 2021.
Recently, Dida went to court, alleging his constitutional rights were being violated.
He claimed he had been prevented from accessing educational and other programs during his incarceration.
“He took the mandatory Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test in June 2022 but did not achieve a passing score. Consequently, he was not permitted to take a General Educational Development (GED) exam. He was placed on a waiting list to retake the TABE after 45 days,” read the document in part.
“He was also told he was on a waiting list for the Adult Basic Education (ABE) class for basic arithmetic and reading skills. Despite the passage of the 45-day waiting period, Plaintiff was not able to retake the TABE test while at East Moline.”
However, in a May 2024 ruling, the court dismissed Dida’s claims, citing there was no constitutional provision to support his claims for inability to access educational or vocational programs.
“This case is DISMISSED with prejudice for failure to state a constitutional claim upon which relief may be granted. The Court counts the dismissal of this action as one of Plaintiff’s three “strikes”,” reads the ruling.
Dida is expected to be released on April 3, 2029.
Mohammed Abduba Dida rose to prominence after he vied for Kenya’s presidency in the 2013 poll.
He ran again in 2017, conceding hours before the incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner.
He previously taught English and Literature at Lenana School.
