DJ Sbu, whose real name is Sbusisio Leope, has denounced claims that he took unfair advantage of the late Zahara.

Sbu, a co-founder of TS Records maintained that the late artiste got her rightful share of the royalties.

He said the royalties were paid directly into the singer’s account.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Sbu said Zahara signed contracts that clearly show the percentage of her earnings.

“I’d never want to do anyone wrong. The only thing I’ve ever done in the industry is to help other people.

“I’m my own man, and I know how to make my own money. I work hard, and the only thing that I’ve ever done was to contribute and help her succeed.”

In a separate interview with SABC News, Sbu said he regarded Zahara as her sister and would not do anything to hurt her.

“People might be mad and may want to find someone to blame. So many people are saying I’m to blame, even though I’m not.”

Sbu reiterated his speech in the 2021 interview, saying that his record label never underpaid Zahara.

“Zahara was getting paid 50%, and it wasn’t supposed to be like that. The contract was that she was supposed to get a little less than that, and the company gets a little bit more.”

He further said Zahara was a millionaire by the time she left TS Records (2013) and went on to start her own.

“She had money. She was a millionaire when we went apart. I don’t know what happened all the way to 2020,” said Sbu in a viral interview.

In 2019, Zahara claimed she did not receive royalties from former TS Records executives Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza and DJ Sbu for her debut album, Loliwe.

The album sold over 500,000 copies and won Zahara several awards.

“When people buy my music, they believe they are putting food on my table.”

“I have to pay R20 000 for this house, but I get R15 000 per li

ve performance,” she told

He described the late Zahara  as an immensely talented musician.
