Kenyan-born Canadian lawyer Joshua Miguna Miguna has appealed to marathoner Eliud Kipchoge to retire following his fifth Berlin Marathon win.
According to Miguna, Kipchoge should retire at his current peak and not when his star has dimmed.
Miguna said those who overstay in their respective fields risk losing their lustre and getting condemned to oblivion.
“Congratulations, Eliud Kipchoge. You have made history. Now, retire when you are on top! Viva!” Miguna wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
In a separate tweet shortly after, the firebrand lawyer went ahead to mention the likes of golfer Tiger Woods, claiming the latter was paying a hefty price for overstaying in the field.
“No one has dominated the golf course and sports more than Tiger Woods in recent history. But he did not know when to RETIRE from competitive professional sports.”
“Nowadays, Tiger Woods has become a spectacle of PITY – and those with no memory no longer remember how GREAT he was on the golf courses of the world.”

Miguna hailed Usain Bolt for retiring from active athletics when he was still at his peak.
“It’s imperative that human beings appreciate that no matter how gifted one is, his/her energy, skills, and performance depreciate with time. The way Usain Bolt did. Happy Sunday!”
Miguna remarks follow the icon’s win at the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, where he clocked 2.02.42 to emerge as the winner of the marathon for the fifth time.
Another Kenyan, Vincent Kipkemboi, emerged in second place in his first ever marathon.
This means the marathon runner has now won in Berlin in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2022, and 2023.
“History maker. Eliud Kipchoge becomes the first man in history to win the Berlin Marathon for the 5th time. 2:02:42 for the win,” World Athletics wrote to celebrate the marathon icon.
