Zhanna Samsonova, a “raw vegan” influencer, died from starvation after a decade of surviving only on fruit and vegetables.
Samsonova, who is originally from Russia, never missed a chance to highlight to her over 10,000 Instagram followers the benefits of a raw vegan diet.
Zhanna Samsonova’s mother told a Russian publication that her daughter died from a “cholera-like infection” that was made worse by her rigid diet, SkyNews Reported.
This is after the 39-year-old passed away on July 21 in Malaysia.
Although her death’s official cause has not been made public, her friends have expressed concerns to the local media about her extreme veganism.
One friend told 116.ru: “Ms Samsonova’s idle starvation was causing her to melt before our eyes, but she believed everything was fine.
“Only her eyes, merry eyes, and gorgeous hair compensated for the dreadful sight of a body tortured by idiocy. Forgive me if it sounds harsh.”
Another said, “I lived one floor above her, and every day I feared finding her lifeless body in the morning. I convinced her to seek treatment, but she didn’t make it.”
According to local media, friends reportedly said that she resisted receiving medical attention before dying and recounted how she was bedridden and had difficulty walking.

They also asserted that she had skipped drinking water for six years in favour of fruit and vegetable juice.
Her most recent Instagram post highlighted the start of the durian season in Thailand, where she’d been living previously.

Alongside a video of her preparing the fruit, she wrote: “It’s that fabulous time of year again—durian season in Thailand!
“Wake up and smell the durian! For all you durian lovers out there, isn’t it just the best? And for those who haven’t yet experienced the joy of durian, you’re in for a wild ride!”
The fruit is banned from several public spaces in some Asian countries due to its unusually unpleasant stench, which has been compared to that of raw sewage.
