A car with unknown number of occupants has plunged into Indian Ocean at the Likoni Channel in Mombasa.
Kenya Ferry Services in a statement said the driver of the vehicle drove into the ocean from the mainland ramp at around 4.20 am Saturday.
Efforts to flag down the vehicle did not bear fruits as the driver accelerated and plunged into the water, the statement says.
The incident comes barely three months after a woman, Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu died at the channel after their car plunged into the ocean.
It took 13 days to locate and retrieve the vehicle which had Kighenda and Amanda inside.
The recovery operation is underway.
