Uhuru, Ruto cancel planned visits to Murang’a

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have cancelled their planned visits to Murang’a County.

The two leaders were to attend separate events with Uhuru scheduled for a fundraiser at ACK St Peter’s Cathedral in Kenol in Maragwa cosntituecy while DP Ruto was to preside over a church fundraiser in Kandara Constituency.

Instead, President Uhuru sent Cabinet secretaries; Dr Fred Matiang’i (Interior), James Macharia (Transport) and Joe Mucheru (ICT) to represent him while DP Ruto sent Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka.

Thousands of people who had turned up at the Kenol church as early as 8:00 am eagerly waiting for Uhuru’s visit were taken aback after reports emerged that the president had cancelled his visit.

Sources close to Ruto disclosed the DP decided to cancel the functions as he did not want to appear as if they were at loggerheads with his boss.

Heated debates emerged on social media Saturday with section of netizens claiming attending two different functions signified split between the two topmost Jubilee leaders.
