The US has issued an alert on the possibility of terrorists striking at a major hotel in Nairobi.
A brief statement on the embassy’s website on Thursday, February 27 said it is believed the hotel is popular with tourists and business travellers.
The embassy has advised increased alert when visiting or staying at hotels in Nairobi.
“Terrorist groups may be plotting an attack against a major hotel in Nairobi. The exact hotel has not been identified, but it is believed to be a hotel popular with tourists and business travelers,” read the alert.
“If staying at a hotel, be aware of the hotel’s evacuation plan. Plan ahead of time how you would exit the hotel in case of an emergency,” it said.
In the same vein, the alert advised the following measures:
- Exercise increased vigilance when visiting or staying at hotels in the Nairobi area.
- If staying at a hotel, be aware of the hotel’s evacuation plan. Plan ahead of time how you would exit the hotel in case of an emergency.
- Review your personal security plans.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
National Police Service has since issued a statement saying it will intensify border patrols as well as security checks.
“We have enhanced police deployment in our cities, towns and particularly in those parts of the country where criminal elements have occasionally instigated criminal activities,” it said in a statement.
It further asked the citizens to exercise extra caution and vigilance.
