Safaricom has finally introduced data bundles, calls and SMSs with no expiry date as it celebrates 19th anniversary.
Under the new system dubbed ‘Simple. Transparent. Honest.’, customers will have an option of choosing whether to buy data bundle with no expiry or a package that expires within a given period.
Customers who dial *544# now have two new options:
- Data Bundle (NO EXPIRY DATE)
- Calls & SMS (NO EXPIRY DATE)
- Normal Data Bundle WITH EXPIRY
- Check Balance
A statement from Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph read:
“ We have reviewed all of our products and services, looked at the many customer touch points, and examined the customer feedback surveys, good and bad, about how we serve you. Today we are making a commitment to being simple, transparent and honest.”
By the same scale, the company assured customers that they will now be served within 5 minutes after lodging complaints.
Also, there will be free WiFi at all Safaricom shops and one can also get a SIM card with a phone number of their choice.
This comes a day after news emerged that a Nairobi lawyer and the chairperson of ICT Association of Kenya Adrian Kamotho had sued three telecommunication companies over arbitrary data bundle expiry.
Kamotho is seeking to stop Safaricom, Airtel Kenya and Telkom Kenya from deactivating customers’ unused data bundles upon expiry.
“Data bundles should not have an expiry date until used up‚ as long as the SIM card is active and the consumer keeps recharging,” he argues In a suit filed before the Communications and Multimedia Appeals Tribunal.
