The red beach is located in Panjin City in China and its famously known for its landscape featuring the red plant of Suaeda salsa of the family Chenopodiaceae.
It lies on the Shuangtaizi River estuary. A river which is has a high saline content and very high alkaline levels.

Due to the salinity, green plants fail to grow in the water or on the shore. However, there is a very special plant that has adapted to the conditions of the river and thrives in this environment.
The sueda also known as seablite which is succulent only grows on such conditions.
Just like any other plant, the sueda changes with seasons. For example during the spring and summer months, the seablite changes into a green colour.
And most interestingly, it turns into deep bright red during the fall. It should be noted that in this beach there is no sand instead it’s the its reeds.
The red beach is also the biggest wetland and reed marsh in the world. Due to its size and complicated makeup the red Beach becomes most complete ecosystem to be found.
The Panjin wetlands is home to 260 birds and 399 other fauna, including rare and endangered species of Crown Crane and Black Beaked Gulls.
Not only is it famous for migrating birds but also famous for rice and bamboo shoots.
The Red Beach became a protected area as part of the Panjin wetlands in 1988, and was declared a ‘National Nature Reserve’, and it has since become a popular tourist destination.
