Papa Shirandula: Legendary actor laid to rest

Veteran actor Charles Bukeko, alias Papa Shirandula has been laid to rest.

The actor was buried on Monday, July 20 at his rural home in Namisi-Bukeko village home in Nanderema, Funyula in Busia County.

His body was transported from Nairobi, arriving in Busia at 3:40 am on Monday accompanied by two buses of mourners.

The procession was received by health officials who screened them under strict COVID-19 protocols.

Those who travelled from Nairobi sat at a differen tent, with locals advised not to mingle with them.

The comedian was finally laid to rest at the family’s graveside with only his family members allowed into the homestead under strict guidelines.

The actor’s body was buried facing the homestead in line with Luhya traditions so as to guard the family from invasions, his father, Cosmas Bukeko Wafula said.

“I have been in consultation with government officials and health officials and they have agreed to bury my son by 8am on Monday,” he said.

Bukeko – a firstborn in a family of four — died on Saturday morning at the Karen Hospital after a short illness. He was aged 58.

He is survived by a wife, Beatrice Ebbie Andega, and three children; Tony, Charlie and Wendy.
