The government has confirmed that bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu are still inside the vehicle that plunged into the ocean on Saturday, September 29.
Addressing the press on Thursday evening, government spokesman Cyrus Oguna said the recovery exercise had been slowed down to find ways to figure ways of pulling the vehicle to the surface without messing the bodies.
“We hoped to finish the exercise today including pulling the vehicle out of the ocean. But the conditions of the tide are not favourable. Also, we’ve confirmed the bodies are inside and therefore we must be careful,” said government spokesman Cyrus Oguna.
Oguna said the recovery exercise will resume Friday, October 11.
On Wednesday, October 9, the government spokesman had promised Kenyans that the whole exercise would conclude Thursday after the car was sighted by the divers not very far from where it sank midstream.
The news are heartbreaking to family members who have been camping at the recovery scene for the 12 days now.
