A section of Jubilee MPs have opposed McDonald Mariga’s candidature for Kibra seat saying the former Inter Milan midfielder was “Ruto’s project”.
The MPs led by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and nominated MP Maina Kamanda have vowed to support ODM’s choice once it’s unveiled on Saturday, August 7.
“The candidate Jubilee Party picked has been imposed on the party by Ruto. He is Ruto’s candidate and not Jubilee’s. I will support a candidate who will be announced by ODM,” said Kamanda.
On his side, Kuria said he would back ODM’s Benson Musungu should he be declared the orange party’s candidate in the by election.
Kuria said the area needed someone who understood the area well and could relate withe the needs of the voters.
On Monday, Mariga came out to distance himself from claims that he was being pushed by Ruto, saying he wanted the position so he could give back to the community.
Already, an aspirant who was beaten by Mariga at the nomination Morris Kinyanjui has written to Jubilee Party saying the nomination exercise was not conducted in a free and fair manner.
“To make matters worse, Mariga is not a resident or a voter in Kibra Constituency,” Kinyanjui claims in the letter.
On Tuesday, DP Ruto made a stop over at Kibra and promised to lead campaign for Mariga over the weekend.
