Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has clarified claims that he addressed the Senate on Tuesday, September 14 while in popular entertainment joint, Sabina Joy.
Through his Twitter Twitter page, the senator dismised the claims saying he is a teetotaller, adding that the allegations were peddled by bloggers against him.
“Kieleweke bloggers- no single drop of alcohol has ever passed via my mouth. That voice insertion into my today’s senate contribution is fake and false. The true question that I asked in Senate was about Murang’a Farmers unpaid milk delivered to county factory,” he wrote.
On Tuesday, Kang’ata was barred from addressing the House virtually after Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka noted he was in an inappropriate place.
The allegations sparked a debate on social media with a section of netizens slamming the senator.
@DonaldKipkorir: Incoming Governor of Murang’a Irungu Kang’ata has decided that if the can’t take the Bar to Parliament, then he will take Parliament to the Bar. The Audacity of Direct Endorsement ! Let’s all drink. Iko Nini
@JohnNgirachu: The irony of ironies is that Irungu Kang’ata doesn’t drink. A heckling Senator kept telling Speaker Lusaka that Kang’ata was in a bar
@ronoh_cornelius: Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata logged in to Senate proceedings from Sabina Joy. This is the same character who has been inciting youths against the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Lest we forget that DP Ruto endorsed him for Gubernatorial seat. UDA direct ticket
@c_sean: We are raising a very bad culture of alcoholism and women. Senator Kang’ata today decided to attend a senate sessions while in Sabina Joy
