Jubilee declares Mariga its candidate for Kibra seat

The Jubilee party has settled on McDonald Mariga as it’s flag bearer in the Kibra by-election slated for November 7, 2019.

The party’s National Election Board (NEB) on Monday, September 2, said Mariga had emerged the best in the interview after beating 15 other candidates.

The board cited, “his impeccable character, enduring connections with the people, demonstrated energy and passion to lead and he has demonstrated humility”.

Earlier Monday, Mariga had come out to deny claims he was being fronted by DP William Ruto, saying the decision to contest the Kibra seat was out of his innate desire to serve the people.

“I’m not being fronted by anyone, it’s my own decision and family because I want to give back to the society,” he said.

Mariga, a former Inter Milan midfielder, commands respect having being among first Kenyan footballers to ply their trade in top leagues abroad.

So far Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC has announced Eliud Owalo as its flag bearer while Ford Kenya will front Butichi Khamisi.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is set to conduct its party nominations Saturday, September 7.

The seat fell vacant after late Ken Okoth succumbed to cancer in late July.
