Kiambu Deputy Governor James Nyoro is set to be sworn in as the governor following the successful impeachment of Ferdinand Waititu Baba Yao.
According to a statement by the Judiciary, Justice John Onyiengo will preside over the ceremony set to be held at the county headquarters in Kiambu town.
Waititu was facing three charges among them gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office and crime under the national law.
In the first charge 27 senators voted in support of the charge and 12 voted against it.
Regarding the second charge on crimes under the National Law, 28 senators found the county boss guilty against 11 senators.
The third charge on abuse of office and gross misconduct had 28 senators vote in support while 11 cast a protest vote.
Waititu was impeached by the MCAs on December 19, 2019.
“Pursuant to Article 181 of the Constitution, Section 33 of the County Government Act, the Senate has resolved to remove the governor from office,” ruled Speaker Ken Lusaka.
