Most people meeting TV journalist Julie Gichuru for the first time may get the impression of someone who grew up in privilege and who had it all while growing up.
However, it was easy to discern empathy from the beautiful news anchor as she interviewed the less fortunate in society during her TV days.
It has now emerged that Julie’s humility stems from the fact that she has encountered worse challenges in life and thankfully triumphed.
In an Instagram post on Monday, November 4, Julie shared how her parents divorce, while she was in her second year of university, saw her sink into depression.
According to Julie, she was a 21-year-old, second-year law student at the university and didn’t have enough money to complete her degree. What’s more, she didn’t have a home to return to. She was only 21.
“I was in the throes of deep depression. My parents divorced, Dad remarried, and Mum emigrated. I had no home to go back to. I didn’t have enough money to complete my degree,” she wrote.

She said things turned around after she turned to God. She would later find two jobs, which enabled her to complete her studies.
“I was frightened and anxious. I lamented with God; I told Him I was so angry with Him, but I still loved Him, and I asked Him to hold me tight and never let me go. I found two jobs at this point and studied hard. I didn’t know where I would end up, but I knew knowledge would get me there. As long as I had breath in my body, I was going to get there.”

She encouraged her followers to never doubt their ability to persevere and beat the odds on their way to their destination.
