Drama as suspect in KSh 4.2 billion graft case shows up for court hearing in vest

A man involved in a massive scandal stunned many after showing up for a virtual court hearing in inappropriate dressing.

The suspect, Fredrick Onyango Chere, caught up in KSh 4.2 billion Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) scandal appeared for the court hearing in a vest.

His move prompted Nairobi Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti to ask him to wear appropriate clothing before they could continue with the pre-trial case.

Also present in the virtual court hearing was Professor Tom Ojienda who asked the Magistrate to compel the suspect to dress properly a as the court’s ethics dictate.

Ojienda argued that the court is clear on the dressing code of accused persons and counsels appearing in court.

Others present were State Counsel James Kihara and Katwa Kigen.

Apart from the drama witnessed, former Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) Managing Director Peter Anguko Abuok and Bobasi Member of Parliament Innocent Obiri Momanyi were charged with KSh 4.1 billion graft charges in 2020.

Ogoti also lifted a warrant of arrest which had been issued by the court after Oloo failed to show up in court.
