Likoni tragedy: John Mutinda dreamed talking to late father, then sped off towards Mombasa – Wife

New details have emerged concerning John Mutinda, the man who drowned at Likoni Channel after his vehicle plunged into Indian Ocean on Saturday morning.

It has now emerged that Mutinda allegedly told his wife he had dreamed receiving a phone call from his late father directing him to drive immediately to Mombasa town, where they were supposed to meet.

Mutinda’s wife, Ruth Mueni was shell-shocked by her husband’s claim and had gone ahead to hide his car key even as she pleaded with him to join her in prayers.

However, Mutinda’s spirited search for the car key materialized a few minutes to 4am and had sped out of their Vanga Estate home in Likoni, telling his wife he would be back after meeting his father “in town”.

“He thereafter, drove out in high speed,” Mueni, a mother of three, told police.

The statement by Mutinda’s spouse was corroborated by his relative, Benedict Sila, who told K24 Digital that the 46-year-old man hurriedly left home after dreaming that he was being called by his late father.

A multi-agency team made up of Kenya Ferry Service personnel, Kenya Navy and Coast Guard Services pulled out the vehicle from the ocean at midday.

KFS in a statement said the driver of the vehicle drove at high speed after purchasing a ticket and plunged into the water.

His vehicle, a Toyota Allion of registration plate KAX 474B, was retrieved from the ocean at midday, Saturday.

The car had plunged 6 meters below the ocean surface.

Mueni told K24 Digital that she never had any wrangles with her husband that could push him to his death.

The couple had three sons.
