Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has fired a least 48 members of the municipal board over illiteracy.
The Board members sit in committees of projects funded by the World Bank tasked with helping in decision making on multi-billion projects.

The fired board members were hired by the former governor Ferdinand Waititu.
Nyoro insisted that skills mismatch in Kiambu County staffing needs to be addressed saying it has largely affected service delivery in some departments.
The governor also noted that most appointments were in total disregard of the law.
“The appointment was done irregularly and most of the members did not qualify for the job,” said Nyoro.
A senior Kiambu official said that the World Bank had doubts about some board members claiming they could not interpret policy issues to the people they represent.
“There were concerns from the World Bank that most of the municipal board members could not understand and interpret policy issues to the people they claim to represent.”
Reports indicated that the fired members had not gone beyond primary school education.
“We sat down after the issue was raised and realised that the problem was their level of education,” said the source who is closer to Governor Nyoro.

“We noticed that most of them had no post-primary education and dropped out of school in Standard Seven yet they were part of the committee that decides on multi-billion projects funded by the World Bank,” the source added.
