Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Friday, March 20, left a section of Kenyans puzzled after he appointed himself the county’s health minister over COVID-19 scare.
In a statement to the press, Nyong’o reshuffled his cabinet that saw the Health minister deployed to the Business Cooperatives and Marketing docket.
In the same vein, the county boss nominated one Joyce Atieno Osogo to the Roads, Public Works, and Transport docket.
“In the meantime, the Department of Health and Sanitation will be managed by the governor himself before the appointment of a substantive CECM,” read the statement.
Nyongo’s move comes a day after the city of Kisumu experienced a COVID-19 scare, which, however turned to be negative.
The suspected case was a 70-year-old Caucasian man who reportedly exhibited signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and was isolated at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.
Earlier, Nyong’o revealed isolation wards had been set aside in several sub-counties, complemented by a counselling centre at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital in Kisumu.
