Also known as fake nails, fashion nails, acrylic nails, nail extensions or nail enhancements are fabulous extensions placed over fingernails by mostly women to accommodate the incredible look and sense of fashion and style.
According to reports on the internet, a dentist identified as Frederick Slack accidentally invented the acrylic sculpting-nail extension in 1954 when he was attempting to mend his broken nail.

It is reported that Fred broke his nail and had to experiment with different chemicals and materials and it was when he came up with an artificial looking nail that would go over his broken nail.
He tried various chemicals when at the forefront of the development of the first high impact dental crown and bridge materials, the first liquid composite filling material, the first direct bonded orthodontic adhesives, and the first hybrid composite
He is also said to have used dental acrylics in making a successful artificial nail.
After perfecting his invention, Fred alongside his brother monogrammed it’s perfect version and and started a company dubbed Patti nails.
For over 50 years now, his family who owns the NSI and the NSI parent company AMCO has been working extra mile in researching, developing and manufacturing innovative products with cutting edge ideas for the professional nail care industry.
The family further managed to come up with first non-yellowing cross-linked formulations used in all traditional acrylic systems in modern times .
However multiple sources argue that the dentist, Fred Slack only assisted in the chemical aspect of the fake nail but did not invent them.

It is reported that the fashion of long nails started many years ago in Egypt. Egyptian women bones, ivory and even gold to make fake nails which they wore to symbolize their status.
