Police recovered fake identification cards which he was using during his stay in Paris.

The court had ordered that he be flown to United Nations Tribunal Court for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania but he appealed the decision in June.

Kabuga’s lawyers had argued that he should not be extradited due to his frail health and claimed that the UN tribunal would be biased.

However, their request was rejected by the court of appeal.

Kabuga’s lawyers did not comment on the matter again.

The 87-years old was accused of bank rolling and participating in the mass killing of over 800,000 people in Rwanda in 1994.

“The arrest of Felicien Kabuga today is a reminder that those responsible for genocide can be brought to account, even 26 years after their crimes.

“For international justice, Kabuga’s arrest demonstrates that we can succeed when we have the international community’s support. This result is a tribute to the unwavering commitment of the United Nations Security Council,” said Serge Brammertz, the chief prosecutor of the mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague.
