Former Mathioya MP Francis Njakwe Githiari has been arrested over allegations that he defrauded a couple of KSh 6.4 million in a disputed land deal in Ngong.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives say the former lawmaker entered into an agreement with the couple to sell them a parcel of land and oversee the construction of a double-storey house on the property.

The project was reportedly valued at KSh 40 million, with payments to be made in instalments.

Detectives say the couple transferred 6.4 million shillings before becoming suspicious about the ownership of the land.

According to investigators, the buyers later discovered that other parties had also laid claim to the same property and that a court dispute over ownership had already been filed.

The couple then halted further payments and reported the matter to authorities.

The DCI’s Land Fraud Investigation Unit said it had gathered sufficient evidence linking Njakwe to the alleged fraud.

Prosecutors from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions subsequently approved charges of obtaining money by false pretences under Section 313 of Kenya’s Penal Code.
