Nelson Havi has launched a scathing attack on Health CS Aden Duale following the death of city gynaecologist Dr Job Obwaka.
Dr Obwaka, 83, died after being rushed to hospital unconscious, ending a long and decorated career in obstetrics and gynaecology.
But even as tributes poured in, his death quickly became entangled in a bitter exchange over the events leading up to it.
Tribute or deflection?
In a condolence message, Duale praised the medic in glowing terms. He described him as a “towering figure in Kenya’s medical field whose contribution to maternal health will be felt for generations.”
His tone was solemn and measured, befitting a national loss.
It is the harassment of the Government of Kenya and interference with the management of the Nairobi Hospital that killed Dr Job Obwaka. We did not hear from you when the Doctor was abducted and detained for a weekend. Your condolences are morbid and cynical. https://t.co/Dy7YGTA5Jk

Yet within hours, Havi struck back.
“The hypocrisy is staggering,” he wrote on social media.
“You cannot preside over harassment, intimidation and humiliation of an elderly doctor, then turn around to mourn him as a hero.”
His remarks cut sharply through the official tributes, reframing the moment from one of mourning to one of accountability.
Connect the dots
The backdrop is a turbulent dispute at Nairobi Hospital, where Dr Obwaka had been caught in a leadership wrangle in his final days.
He was briefly detained in a saga that sparked unease across both legal and medical communities.

For Havi, those events are central—not incidental.
“This death does not exist in isolation,” he said.
“It comes after sustained pressure from state-linked interference. Kenyans must connect the dots.”
Duale, however, has not publicly engaged with the accusations, instead maintaining a focus on honouring the late doctor’s legacy.
