Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi is now recovering from injuries after a brazen mid-afternoon assault in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8.
Moments earlier, the day had carried the easy rhythm of routine. A quick haircut. A brief stop at a Java café. Then, almost imperceptibly, the atmosphere curdled.
The attackers approached in a cluster – men described by witnesses as focused, coordinated, and unflinching.
Their questions cut through the air, not as enquiries but as accusations. Why, they pressed, had he aligned himself with the so-called “one-term” movement?

There was no time to answer.
What followed was swift and jarring. Chairs screeched. Conversations snapped mid-sentence.
CCTV clips now circulating online capture fragments of the chaos: bodies surging forward, tables knocked askew, a public space collapsing into confusion.
In the centre of it all, Osotsi was set upon.
His security detail, armed but cautious, made a split-second calculation not to fire.
Kicks and blows landed on Osotsi. Again and again.
The damage had been done by the time calm returned. Within hours, the seriousness of his injuries became undeniable.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna confirmed that Osotsi required urgent evacuation.
He was airlifted to Nairobi, a dramatic extraction that spoke to the ferocity of the encounter.
Condemnation followed swiftly, but it carried an edge. Allies did not describe the attack as random. They called it “calculated”, “premeditated”, and even “orchestrated”.
And beneath that language lies a deeper political undercurrent.
I have learnt, with much disappointment, of the alleged assault on Vihiga Senator, Hon Geoffrey Osotsi, by some Goons while at a Kisumu Caffee! This act of cowardice, Political intolerance & goonism must be condemned & stamped-out. If we don’t, 2027 might be ominous!

Osotsi, who was once firmly entrenched within the Orange Democratic Movement, has recently adopted a more restless trajectory, aligning himself with the “Linda Mwananchi” faction.
