Ugandan Man Kills, Eats Cobra that Ate His Chickens

You think revenge tastes sweet? For one Ugandan man, it tasted like cobra. Raw courage. Or maybe just fried snake.

On a quiet morning in Kwapa Central village in Tororo, Uganda, 34-year-old Kenneth Odiom woke up hungry. Not for breakfast. For payback. His culprit?

A venomous cobra that had been snatching his chickens, one by one. The feathered militia had turned into the snake’s all-you-can-eat buffet.

Fed up, Odiom didn’t rant. He acted. He didn’t just kill the snake. He ate it. Real. Cobra. Snake.

First, he went cowboy. He dug into the anthill where the snake had made camp just outside his compound. Then came the smoke. Thick, billowing. The cobra hissed. Odiom didn’t flinch.

Headless and helpless, the serpent met the boiling pot. Skin off. Chop chop. Chop. All business. Then came the dip-fry. Crisp. Sizzling. Spectacle.

Villagers gathered, eyes wide, jaws even wider. In this part of Tororo, snake on a plate wasn’t on the menu.

The incident which happened in 2018 had villagers concluding that Odiom, a transporter by trade, might have picked up the taste for reptiles during his travels to neighbouring DR Congo. Stranger things have happened on the road.

When the cobra was finally on the grill, Odiom sat down like any celebrant. Birthday boy. Snake feast. Glass of juice in one hand, cold beer in the other. A plate of cobra. A village in shock. Simple. Surreal. Spectacular.

Local herpetologists will tell you ‘venomous’ doesn’t mean ‘poisonous’ – a technical but crucial difference if you’re planning to turn a killer reptile into killer supper.

Let that sink in next time your chicken goes missing.
