A quiet Monday morning in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa snapped into crisis after a housegirl slipped out of her employer’s home with a carton and a trove of valuables that has jolted Nairobi’s security circles.

Police say the employer, a licensed firearm holder, had stepped out with his family on November 3.
When they returned, the portable safe was gone.

Inside it: a Glock pistol, two loaded magazines, 40 rounds of ammunition, USD 1,950, €600, KSh 5,000, several pieces of jewellery, land title deeds and electronics.

CCTV shows the woman walking calmly out of the gate, the carton balanced in her arms.

The guards let her pass, assuming she had been sent on an errand.

The Nairobi police commander, George Seda, confirmed detectives are now chasing both the suspect and the missing weapon.

“We are making efforts to trace the woman for grilling and possible recovery of the weapon and cash,” he said.

Police are worried the stolen firearm could turn into a major public-safety threat.

Detectives fear the pistol could be trafficked, rented out or used in violent crime before it is recovered.

The brazenness of the operation has also unsettled residents.

The housegirl had been hired only recently, raising questions about vetting gaps in homes across Nairobi’s affluent estates.

Security analysts note a growing pattern: domestic staff taking advantage of routine, predictable household rhythms, then striking with speed and minimal confrontation.

Police say the woman may have studied the home carefully or received information from someone else.

Detectives are combing through phone records and interviewing neighbours, guards and previous employers.
