Exiled Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna hopes to fly back into the country following the election of William Ruto as the president.

Hours after Ruto was declared the president elect by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Miguna noted that he was ready to come back to the country.

He, however, noted that for his return to be successful, Ruto must first be sworn in as the president.

Miguna explained that after Ruto’s assumption of office, red alerts issued against him shall be lifted and his Kenyan passport renewed.

“To all patriots: Relax. Thanks for the solidarity. Yes, I’ve packed my bags and I’m ready

“But before I can take my flight back home, William Samoei Ruto must first be sworn in, the red alerts lifted and my Kenyan passport renewed. See you soon. Cheers!” He wrote.

Miguna was deported in February 2018 after swearing-in former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as ‘the people’s president’.

His departure came after he was charged with treason-related offences.

Local media reported that Miguna’s lawyers say he was deported to Canada via a KLM flight.

“It is true. He was forced into a KLM flight minutes to 10pm and we gather he is headed to Canada. Such a travesty of justice,” John Khaminwa, one of Miguna’s lawyers said.

Ministry of Interior spokesman, Mwenda Njoka said it relied on the old Kenya Constitution to deprive Miguna of his birthright as the former supreme law did not allow dual citizenship.

It was said that when Miguna acquired a Kenyan passport in March 2009, he deliberately failed to disclose the fact that he had acquired citizenship of another country making his Kenyan passport illegal.

“He acquired a Kenyan passport in 2009 at a time when it was illegal for a Kenyan to hold dual citizenship without having denounced the foreign citizenship,” the ministry said.
