Salasya Claims Sifuna Took Bribe to Impeach Riggy G, Says He Is Unfit for President

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has intensified his sustained attacks on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Salasya accused Sifuna of backing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment for money rather than principle and declaring him unfit for higher office.

In a thinly veiled attack widely understood to be directed at Sifuna, Salasya questioned the integrity of leaders who supported Gachagua’s removal from office.

“If somebody was paid to impeach Riggy and he accepted the money other than principles, how can I trust such an idiot?” Salasya said.

“He led the entire Senate to sacrifice kijana ya mlima, bure kabisa.”

Salasya did not produce evidence to support the allegation, and Sifuna has consistently rejected claims that senators were bribed.

The Nairobi senator has maintained that ODM supported Gachagua’s impeachment on constitutional grounds.

During a recent meeting with Gachagua in Nyeri, Sifuna candidly told the former deputy president that ODM stood by its decision because, in his view, Gachagua’s own party spearheaded the impeachment push before seeking opposition support.

The remarks also stand in sharp contrast to Gachagua’s own praise of Salasya.

Following the impeachment vote, the former deputy president publicly hailed the youthful MP for rejecting what he claimed were attempts to bribe lawmakers into supporting his removal, portraying Salasya as one of the few legislators who remained steadfast.

Salasya’s latest broadside is part of a growing political offensive against Sifuna.

In recent days, he has urged the outspoken senator to leave ODM, asserting that the party has marginalised him since his removal as secretary-general.

He warned that remaining in the party would jeopardise his political future.

The growing war of words underscores widening fault lines within the opposition as politicians reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Salasya increasingly casting himself as a defender of Gachagua’s political constituency while repeatedly challenging Sifuna’s credibility.
